WPGC Landscapes Central Library

Club Members, Girl Scout Troop 953, & Friends landscape Central Library
Project Update - The highlight of the 2010 year was completing phase I of a huge project: landscaping the entrance to Central Library. With the old overgrown junipers removed one year ago, this barren space was crying for a make-over. There were no County funds available to improve the entrance, so our garden club took up the challenge to raise funds and coordinate the planting.
On April 10, 2010 Cadette Girl Scout Troop 953 joined our club members, their husbands, and friends to make a combined force of 27! This made easy work of the 13 hot pink Knock-Out Roses, Adagio grass, coreopsis, daylilies and variegated liriope going into the sunny semi-circular garden in the drive up, as well as the pink-flowered hellebores and ferns in the shade garden by the book drop. These gardens support National Garden Clubs "Plant it Pink" initiative to promote breast cancer awareness.
The funds for this project were provided by our garden club and a grant from the Piedmont District of the Virginia Federation of Garden Clubs.
Phase II of this landscape project is actually larger; it includes the 2 side planting bed at the entrance and is scheduled for planting Autumn 2010. Photos of the day’s accomplishments were generously provided by Andre Tremper, and can be viewed at http://actremper.phanfare.com/4631887#imageID=97135316

About the Program - The Woodland Pond Garden Club has a Recycling Program in which we collect and recycle Printer & Toner Cartridges, as well as Cell Phones. These items are not completely bio-degradable and will lie around cluttering Mother Earth for years and years if it they are not recycled or disposed of properly.
Ask your friends and family to participate in this program. You can even recycle the printer & toner cartridges from your place of business.
If you would like to help the WPGC in this effort, please place the cartridges & old cell phones in a plastic bag and then drop them in the container on my porch or even in my newspaper box if it is more convenient for you!
Drop off location: 11207 Timber Point Drive
If you have questions please email gardenclub@woodlandpond.org.
Thank you in advance for your help in this worthwhile project!
